We had the opportunity to catch up with Matt Stillwell who just released his re-packaged & re-mastered album entitled Shine Deluxe. Matt took some time to answer questions from us as well as his fans. He is not only a very talented artist, but has a fantastic personality!!

CMR: Congratulations on the release of your album
Shine Deluxe which includes your new songs Drunk Enough, Dirt Road Dancing Remix featuring Colt Ford, and If I Can’t Have You.What did you do to celebrate your album release?

MS: Lol! I sent text messages to all of my friends forcing them to download the album! No celebration yet!

CMR: What was your favorite part of making the
Dirt Road Dancing video?

MS: I liked dressing up and dancing, but mainly I loved watching Meatball (guitar player) squeeze out from behind that tree. It was actually a large redwood and he made it look like a twig!

CMR: You are performing at the signature event
Aquapalooza this year, how excited are you for this event?

MS: Absolutely! I’ll be part of the Brad Paisley H2O Tour and that is awesome! Not many independent artists get that opportunity. Sea Ray has been great to me and this event is a blast every year!

ourcountryroadAverage Joe’s Entertainment signed Matt Stillwell earlier this year with the hopes of making him a household name on Music Row. Stillwell has been around the North Carolina country music scene for years now and has even produced four albums on his own. Stillwell’s last album, “Shine” will be re-made as “Shine Deluxe”, as the first album release from Average Joe’s. The entire album has been re-packaged and re-mastered along with a few new tracks added. “Drunk Enough” and “Dirt Road Dancing Re-Mix featuring Colt Ford” have been added to the original collection of songs. By starting his career from the ground up, Matt has built up a strong fan base that is eager to see Stillwell catch the eyes of country radio and Music Row.  Matt has been in heavy rotation on Sirius/XM radio during the last few weeks. It would be great to see him get picked up by more radio stations around the country. Come on back for our review of “Shine Deluxe” later in the week.

gotcountryMatt Stillwell did not take your average route to country music stardom. The multi talented singer, songwriter and guitarist didn’t wait for the labels to come knocking on his door.  He moved to Nashville to build a career in country music, toured the South with his guitar, gradually building up a following.  He developed contacts with some of the city’s best musicians, who would later play on his debut album “Take It All In“.  Two years later he released “Shine” on his own Still 7 record label. Today Matt  releases his re-packaged version of “Shine” called “Shine Deluxe“.  With two new songs “Drunk Enough” and “If I Can’t Have You” with a new remixed version of “Dirt Road Dancing” featuring Colt Ford.

You all know Matt Stillwell, and by now you all know I like him – if you don’t you haven’t been paying attention. I think he’s a great entertainer. And a great guy. He’s talented, has a great personality, and he makes anywhere he performs a really fun place to be.
I recently received a copy of his new CD. It’s Matt Stillwell Shine/Deluxe Edition. It’s got all the Matt Stillwell songs I love, and if you haven’t heard them – take my word for it, you’re going to love them, too. Matt is the kind of singer who puts out one song and it just stays with you. I know I’m not the only person who can sing “Shine” form start to finish, right along with Matt.
But the CD is more than “Shine", it’s good music. “Dam This Rain,” “Somewhere Between Me and You,” “Moment of Weakness,” and his newest single, “Dirt Road Dancing,” are all great examples of the kind of performer Matt is. And, there’s even a remix of “Dirt Road Dancing,” where Matt is joined by Colt Ford. The Deluxe edition will be released today.
Now let me tell you guys about Sunny Ledfurd. When I listened to his CD, “Sunny Ledford Greatest Hits 2003-2009,” I wasn’t sure what I was going to think of it. And I’ll be honest, I had pre-judged the CD … just a little. Sunny sang with Colt Ford on a few songs on Colt’s CDs. And, I’m not a big Colt Ford fan. I know I’m pretty much in the minority here – but I just can’t get into ‘rap’ (be it country or otherwise). So while I think Colt Ford is really a pretty cool guy, and I’m looking forward to seeing him in Gray, Tenn., in August at the Appalachian Fair, I’m just not a big fan of his music.
Ok, that said … when I put Sunny’s CD into my player, I was expecting a lot of the kind of stuff Colt does – that’s not what I got. I got country music. Maybe with a touch of rap here and there – but for the most part, I got country music. By the way – that title, “Greatest Hits 2003=2009” – that simply tells us a little about Sunny’s sense of humor, because he hasn’t been putting out hits since 2003. It was a joke. Sunny’s CD will be released on June 29. And to give you an idea of what you have to look forward to from him.

Matt Stillwell did not take your average route to country music stardom. Multi talented Matt stillwell a singer, songwriter and guitarist didn’t wait for the labels to come knocking on his door.  He moved to Nashville to build acareer in country music, toured the South with his guitar, gradually building up a following. If you did not get the original “Shine” then you owe it to yourself to check out “Shine Deluxe”.  Matt still has yet to strike it big on country radio,  but any true country fan will love this CD and the stories that the songs tell so well.  Matt has strong song writing skills that will take him far in this business having co-written six of the tracks on this CD.

The two new songs on “Shine Deluxe”, “Drunk Enough” a song about a guy who calls his Ex while drunk(never a good idea) is great  example of Stillwell’s songwriting ability.  “If I Can’t Have You” is a song about not wanting to have anything around that would remind you of the relationship especially if there is no more chance of that relationship.   I really liked this song kind of the opposite of hanging on to something that you can’t have and just letting go and moving on.  The last new item on this CD the remix of “Dirt Road Dancing” featuring Colt Ford, is probably one of my favorites on this CD.  I really like Colt Ford and what he is bringing to the table in terms of his music style and his brand of country music.

Matt Stillwell’s “Shine Deluxe” is a definite must grab, and if country radio doesn’t play from it then they are making a big mistake.  Matt’s songwriting ability and true musicianship truly shine on this CD his best effort to date.  I am looking forward to seeing and hearing more from Matt as I am sure he is going to be a long time contributor to Country Music and it’s fans.  Matt has a big fan here at countryfannetwork and will eagerly watch for his new material down the road.  Win a Matt Stillwell Prize pack which includes a copy of “Shine Deluxe” and a Matt Stillwell T-Shirt.
